Credentials & Experience

The Managing Partner of Diversified, Michael R. Peters, has exceptionally strong credentials, meeting the requirements for designation as a full Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI), the Institute's highest designation.   All professional staff members hold real estate related undergraduate business (or law) degrees; three hold advanced degrees (one MBA and two JDs).   All appraisers are licensed by the state of California as Certified General Appraisers.   Diversified is a full service boutique firm whose members combined, have over 125 years of experience.

  • Mr. Peters holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Southern California and has been a Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) since 1976.   He has served on the Institute's National Ethics Committee and Admissions Committee.   Mr. Peters has provided litigation support and expert testimony in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego courts.
  • Mr. Peters has over 45 years of real estate valuation and consulting experience.   Prior to forming Diversified in 1977, Mr. Peters was an associate with Robert L. Foreman, MAI, of Newport Beach, California.

DAVID M. HATFIELD, JD

  • Mr. Hatfield obtained a Juris Doctor degree (Cum Laude) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law from Western State University College of Law and received American Jurisprudence Awards in the areas of Contract Law, Real Property Law and Corporate Law.   Mr. Hatfield has been a member of the California State Bar for 40 years and has been a Certified General Appraiser licensed by the State of California for the past 24 years.
  • Mr. Hatfield is an Associate at Diversified Realty Appraisal.   He has performed a variety of appraisals over the past 23 years, with specific emphasis on estate planning related issues as well as all types of commercial properties, industrial properties and residential subdivision developments.   Prior to joining Diversified, Mr. Hatfield practiced law in both the corporate and private sectors for over 21 years, with primary emphasis in the private sector on estate planning and probate valuations as well as real estate transactional experience.   Past business affiliations include staff legal counsel for Union Oil Company of California, Associate Counsel for Geothermal Resources International, Inc. and General Counsel for McFarland Energy, Inc.

JONATHAN W. PASTOR, JD

  • Mr. Pastor is a 1971 graduate of the University of Southern California School of Law, where he served on the board of editors of the law review.   He is a member of the American Arbitration Association's panel of neutrals.
  • Mr. Pastor has served as Diversified's General Counsel for over 20 years.   He has practiced law as a partner in a prestigious downtown Los Angeles law firm and was in-house counsel to private and NYSE companies, most notably Kaufman & Broad.   He brings to Diversified years of experience in legal issues which arise in the course of real estate valuations, including those relating to real estate purchases, sales, loans and syndications, corporate transactions, public company reporting, estate and gift tax matters and business litigation.
